Preludio
20211118_203019edit

I walked in to Preludio with sky high expectations because I've heard so much great things about it from friends (with discerning taste-buds, no less). Thankfully I wasn't disappointed, though I wasn't mindblown either. (I probably would be if I hadn't walked in with expectations.)

Very nice interior that looks even better in daylight!

Waves Lapping on the Shore: Chervil Root, Consomme

Rye Bread: Fermented Mushroom, Bacon and Maple Glaze, Butter

Elude: White Beetroot, Burrata, Walnut, Yoghurt, Saba Marsala Pearls

This dish is created to look like the next dish-

Allude: Fermented Mushroom, Bone Marrow, Thyme, Potato, Cavier

This was my favourite dish of the night!

Nantucket Sound: Nantucket Scallop, Black Garlic, Salted Corn, Maitake Mushroom

This was my least favourite dish, and there's a huge gap between this dish and my second least favourite dish. Like, this ranked real low for me. The way the scallop was prepared did no justice to scallop (couldn't taste the sweetness) and the Maitake Mushroom left a unpleasant greasy texture in my mouth. No thanks!

Dark Hour: Obsiblue Prawn, Chorizo, Peas, Parsley

The pinkish skin is made of prawns, not sure how they did it but the skin was so glossy and smooth! Kinda like a deconstructed popiah/dumpling.

La Cortina: Butternut Squash & Amaretto Agnolotti, Parmesan, Almond, Il Borgo Traditional Balsamic Vinegar Aged 25 years

This is the kind of dish that grows on you. The flavours were complex and makes you want to keep digging in to uncover more of that umaminess. My second favourite dish!

12 Hour Journey: Wild Seabass, Sweet Cauliflower, Vanilla, White Wine, Lemon Balm

Not sure what the 12 hour journey refers to. Is it a 12 hour cooking process, or 12 hour from sea to table? I really liked the sauce, it reminds me of a the Alaskan Crab Leg dish at Nouri

Pata Negra: Iberico Pork Presa, White Carrot, Apple, Datterini Tomato

The pork had a coating of spice which provided a nice kick. Nice!

More bread because it's free so why not #cheapo

Crème Fraîche Sorbet: Bergamot, Basil

For Old Time’s Sake: Sake Kasu Ice Cream, Hazelnut, Pistachio, Buckwheat, Fermented Strawberry

Chip off the Block: Variety of Chocolate & Ice Cream

More chocolate in a form of a birthday chocolate piñata! This was fun.

Seasonal Fruit: Smoked Olive Oil & Maldon Sea Salt

Could do without this dish.

While everyone else wrote nice things on the guest book, here we have an embarrassing one written by who? I wonder.

In general, the food was rather potato-forward: while not all of the dishes had potato, those with potato tasted strongly like potatoes, which gets repetitive after a while, no matter how nice the potato is.
