I have been watching (and rewatching) this chinese variety programme called 密室大逃脱大神版 (The Great Escape: Master Version) (thank you Chinyee for the recommendation!!) and it makes me want to experience an escape room, though I doubt I can make it out since I'm claustrophobic.
But anyway, I had a little taste of that because finding the entrance to Sommer was quite a challenge that's worthy to be a segment in the Great Escape show.
The entrance was hidden, and the door was an inconspicuous black with the name "Sommer" engraved on it. Nothing else. No signage, and the door was closed. Also, it was quite a heavy door. We literally walked around the restaurant twice, before we found the entrance.
It was a birthday treat from Ehren and we had the four course Inspiration menu.
Naturally Leavened Sourdough with Kombu Butter

The bread was good (so much better than Mirazur's dense sharing bread) but the butter was pretty meh.
Canapés
Glazed Foie Gras, Sauternes, Onion

Explosion in my mouth with the finger lime providing little notes of tartness.
Smoked Eel Tart, Nori, Caviar

This was my favourite dish of the night! The tomato dashi came in the form of jelly bits surrounding the tomato, and the crab was hidden underneath the tomato. Great flavour pairing, and very aesthetically pleasing.
Kinmedai, Crispy Scales, Kohlrabi, Roasted Squid Bouillon

This was Ehren's favourite dish. I remember having crispy scales somewhere else, not too long ago, but just can't figure out where exactly. (note to self: further memory digging required) The crispy scales were a great addition of texture to the dish.
Brittany Pigeon, Beetroot, Girolles, Earl Grey
Pigeon Offals, Cracker

We were advised to eat this before the main Pigeon dish because this has a stronger flavour profile.
I thought this would fit their Fall menu perfectly because of the mini maple leaves and truffle that resembled a foliage. (They were serving the Summer menu)
Yay #stillmybirthday hahah
Vaucluse Cherry, Araguani Chocolate, Fresh Almond

I was hoping that the dessert wouldn't be disappointing because they've impressed with with every dish thus far and I was hoping it wouldn't pull a Mirazur on me and serve a shitty ass dessert.
This was quite a disappointing dessert, sadly, but still not as bad as Mirazur's. It's my first time having fresh almonds, and I don't like it at all. There's this... grassy taste, which in dialect we say 臭青...
Their Petit Four was their saving grace because every item was so good! Honestly I would be very happy if they served this as our dessert right away, instead of that chocolate dish.
Canelé.
I didn't catch the name but it's like a mini french toast with raspberry puree.
Matcha Macaron
Mini Passion Fruit Cream Puff with a delicate butterfly cracker perched on top.
Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate Tart.

Ehren asked if I still think Chef's Table is better. Honestly, Chef's Table still wins in terms of overall price performance ratio (8 courses for $150!!), but the food and presentation at Sommer wins hands down.
This is way better than Mirazur as well. No regrets trying Mirazur, but I wouldn't pay to dine there again. (yeah hit me up with a free meal anytime)
