Back in the city // Restaurant Gorilla
Navigating around a city is like child's play, as compared to the logistical nightmare that I went through in the Faroe Islands. Miss a bus? No problem, there will always be a next one. OH AND LET'S TALK ABOUT THE AVAILABILITY OF BASIC AMENITIES LIKE WASHROOMS AND FOOD EVERYWHERE. No more holding my pee! No more chocolate bars for lunch!! No more rationing my water supply!!! Yea. You'll get to see how I had stuffed myself silly with food during my stay in Copenhagen. It's a ridiculous amount, in retrospect.
My room came with no aircon and a heater, so I slept with the windows wide open every night. Also, my room was on the 2nd floor, right above a pub, and it was world cup season. Not that I was in my room during the peak of the action, but whenever I was, I would tune in to the game and pretend like I was watching and cheering with the people downstairs, but in the comfort of my room.
It was close to 8pm when I touched down in Copenhagen, and I had a dinner reservation for 9.30PM at Restaurant Gorilla. (Always make a reservation - if they take one - in Copenhagen!)
Having dinner at 9.30PM is awfully late by my usual routine, but:
1) The brightness of the sky really messed up meal times.
2) I BELIEVE that a later dinner service = faster dinner service. I mean, if they are closing at 11PM, and you there at 9.30PM, then you'll probably get everything within 1.5hours, right? As compared to going in at 7PM, and them possibly holding you till 10PM. (Or 8PM to 2.30AM LOL) That's just my theory. And I think it worked. I left before 11PM.
Just look at how bright the sky was at 930PM!
I went for the tasting menu. This is a beef tartare dish with sour cream. (That was my first time having beef tartare!)
Profiterole with lumpfish roe
Pike-perch Ceviche with avocado and jalapeƱo
Kimchi sausage! I really liked this one.
White asparagus and pan-fried fish (sorry, I forgot what sort of fish it was)
PASTA WITH PEAS AND LARD. OMG! PORK LARD. It was so sinfully good.
A rare piece of meat with a lonely stalk of asparagus.
Pork belly slider with pineapple.
Danish strawberries with ice cream. The guy emphasised Danish. So, Danish they are.
Strawberry chili sorbet. Origin of Strawberries unknown.
Restaurant Gorilla is located at Vesterbro, the meatpacking district in Copenhagen, which is home to many trendy restaurants, bars and markets, and just a 20 minutes walk away from my hotel.
While walking there, I thought this neighbourhood looked sketchy, which made me a little uncomfortable walking alone. It wasn't that bad on m way there, because it was bright. But it got noticeably darker at 11PM = scarier.
That's Restaurant Gorilla on the left. 10/10 would visit this restaurant again!
