Was feeling generous (lol) and bought my family dinner. I wanted to try Teppan Kappou Kenji for some time now so here we go:
This dashimaki tamago actually rivals the tamago from the worst Japanese meal I've had in my life LOL. Here's a throwback:
This was back in 2014. We just landed in Kyoto, cold and starving. We assumed there's no way you can go wrong with any food in Japan (we were proven wrong), plus this restaurant was bustling with locals, no signs of English other than the Open sign, and was opened in 明治11年, which I believe is 1878...?
To be fair, the food wasn't revolting, but even the most unauthentic Japanese food I've had tasted better than this.

The black beans coated in mystery goo, in particular, while stomachable, was not something I would like to put in my mouth again. Everything was bland? We must have missed the sodium-free sign somewhere.
Honestly, saying that my mum can cook better than this is an insult to my mum because first of all, she cooks well, and second, she can make something way better than this even with her eyes closed and hands tied.

The popularity of this restaurant still remains as one of my life's greatest mystery.
Anyway, back to the main roll-
In all, the food was good but service was unaccountably slow. All these took them two hours to serve, which I think Sushi Tei would have only taken half the time.
