Day 7: Lisbon → Salamanca (Christmas Day)
Went to the Sanctuary of Fátima in the morning!
Unfortunately the place was closed for restoration works, so we could only walk around outside.
So apparently I came here 15 years ago! I have no idea about that trip though, that's why I think it's such a waste of money to bring kids to expensive destinations when they are young, since they are not likely to remember anything.
But anyway, I brought along a photo taken 15 years ago and was determined to take a photo from the exact spot again! (See the 2 following photos)
The 2 main difference were 1)the 2 photos on the exterior wall have been taken down and 2)where's everyone?
Lighted up a candle as well! There are candles made in all sorts of shapes you can think of, all sorts of organs, houses.. etc. So it's said that you should burn the candle according to your prayer. So if you have heart problems, then you should light up the heart shaped candle (it's in the shape of the organ, not the cutesy love shape lol)
Lunch at a service station while on our way to Salamanca!
Had duck rice and breaded chicken with rice & peas. The duck rice was pretty good, tasted something like our chinese yam rice.
Couldn't resist getting this chocolate filled orange cake! The cake is more like a kueh texture, super sweet but nice nonetheless. I think my taste palette has accustomized to the local palette by then, hahaha
view from our room that night!
Also, it's quite common to see buskers playing the accordion along the streets in the own town all over Spain! Some even play while following you around (for tips, I suppose), which adds alot of feels while you explore the old town.
lol
Salamanca Square! We were like "WOWWWWWW" when we walked into the square, the huge lighted christmas ornament is so impressive! In size and all.
this place really wow-ed us, we were not expecting to see such a huge ornament light (whatever you call it) in the centre of the square!
THE BEST CHURROS AND HOT CHOCOLATE I HAD IN SPAIN.
The moon was super huge and bright that night! A pity I couldn't take it down nicely on my camera.
And xinyu insisted that I take photos of their colourful bins whenever we see them, haha
