(warm) welcome to Harbin
DSC08860edit

it was (only) -9°C the day we got there, which was relatively warm (lol) compared to our following days which averaged around -18°C to -25°C.

walked to st. sophia cathedral from our hotel:

paid 25rmb to enter the cathedral. there's nothing much in there so I'll advise anyone who asks to skip that. but then 25rmb is not alot.. and it's just one of those things that you'll do once and not again..

there's even a live cello performance.

and then we headed to 衣彬之家 which was just next to the cathedral to buy cheap winter gear that we only intend to use during this trip and not bring it back home, such as winter boots etc.

the place was MASSIVE and you can get things even cheaper than on taobao! (well you are saving the shipping cost at least) for reference, I got a pair of decent quality winter boots for just SGD15.

headed to 道里菜市场 next which was by the cathedral as well.

雪媚娘 - deep fried meringue with red bean filling. not sure if it's the nature of this dish or it wasn't well executed, but it was quite oily.

锅包肉 - sweet and sour pork

my 铁锅炖!!! we picked the pork rib stew. it's kinda like a hotpot I guess, just that everything's stewing in the pot. this was very, very good.
