had brunch with my usual four girls to celebrate mui's birthday earlier last month
I was doing a no meat and alcohol challenge in November and had the plant power breakfast at Privé which was awful LOL
Privé surprised us with a complimentary cake and handwritten birthday card for mui! A handwritten birthday card is such a lovely touch, haven't received one of those in a long time.
My sister ordered a bottled Sakura Martini from Jigger & Pony which I couldn't try till December. Super pretty but wayyyyy too strong for my liking.
Nutella Cruffin from The Coffee Academics
Very comforting bowl of ramen from an inconspicuous ramen stall along Tanglin Shopping Centre. Can't say it's the best bowl of ramen I've had but that soup gave the same comforting feeling as being enveloped in a warm blanket. That really hit a great spot - or rather, clogged some spot in my heart with that generous serving of chicken oil. Anyway, I love unhealthy food.
Went for the steakcation package at Hilton with the girls from MT and I must say that the standard has dropped drastically. Highly questionable service and rules all around (NO HOUSEKEEPING PROVIDED UNLESS YOU STAY FOR A MINIMUM OF THREE NIGHTS AND EVEN THEN IT'LL ONLY BE PROVIDED ON ALTERNATE DAYS). So I essentially paid to make my own bed and organise my own bathroom (we stayed for two nights). I'll honestly never return to this dilapidated hotel again (okay, I exaggerate - the rooms have been revamped though the exterior looks like it still belongs to the 1980s)
Half blink or drunk, maybe both.
Had some legit South Indian food on Deepavali day from Podi & Poriyal.
Went back to The Nomads for dinner but this time with Misa! They are still serving the same menu, but no complaints because the food is really good.
Received a complimentary dish because they recognised me! Just one of the perks of having a highly recognisable face.
Crystal Gin Fizz at Jigger & Pony (the bar that my sister bought the Sakura Martini from). Very interesting take on my favourite cocktail. It's a great bar but I'm not convinced that it's deserving of the 9th best bar in the world spot because most of their drinks were pre-prepared in bottles. The making of the drinks makes up a huge part of the bar experience for me, so I felt shortchanged.
Dinner with Chinyee and Kazu Sumiyaki which serves really good kushiyaki. This sweet potato dish (Yaki Imo) is their star dish, apparently, and costs $23 with a one-hour wait time. We weren't sweet potato fans, but were intrigued by the price tag.
It's tasty, but I'm not sure if it's because of the butter (butter makes everything better, and I've never had butter with sweet potato before. I KNOW, WHAT BLASPHEMY) or because they used some special cultivar.
Anyway, I plan to recreate this dish using normal grade Japanese Sweet Potato and see if it's just as tasty. If it is, then it's definitely the butter that made it so good. But if it isn't, then it's the cultivar. #CONTROLLEDEXPERIMENT
Also, we were intrigued by this dish that another table of diners ordered (they ordered four plates of this) and so we ordered one too. It went like this:

(waves to the server who just placed that dish on the other diners' table)
me: what's that dish that you just placed on their table?
server: oh that's a chestnut. would you like to try one?
chinyee: yes let's have one
(server walks away)
me: we don't even know how much it costs
LOL I suppose if we are willing to pay $23 for a sweet potato, the price of everything else doesn't really matter anymore does it LOL JOKING we were not-so-secretly praying that it's not expensive
Turns out it's just a roasted chestnut (a huge ass one though) and it costs $12.
