Day 4: Krawkow // Wieliczka Salt Mine
in someone else's backyard
I try to make it a point to try the fastfood in all the countries I go to, just to see how different is their menu and how different do they taste.
They used wholemeal buns for their burgers (there's also the possibility of me ordering wrongly) but anyway, we don't have this option here at home! A tad dry though, and I wouldn't bother swithching the bun to a healthier option because it's not going to make my meal any healthier..
And there's rockets in the burger yummm
Visited Wieliczka Salt Mine, which was a really interesting place. Taking the wooden lift down was totally an experience of it's own. It's like a 3-storey lift, so imagine 3 cabins stacked up, and they will move down/up together. They will squeeze in about 9 people into the small cabin and then whoosh off you go.
So apparently you can only open one door in each chamber at a time due to the air pressure or something along the lines. It's not impossible to open 2 doors at a time, just difficult, because of the air pushing against the other door.
Figurines littered all around the place to show how the miners worked.
The Chapel of St. Kinga, which I thought was the prettiest part of the mine.
The last supper carved into a rock-salt wall
Rock-salt flooring as well
Underground lake! The water is so blue and pretty
You can even hold a banquet here if you wish
One of the many chapels throughout the mine. Miners were religious due to the dangerous nature of their job, which explains the need for them to pray and have some form of support.
